We put our clients’ needs first

Based in the centre of St Albans City, Bretherton Law has been serving the Northern Home Counties and London for over 50 years. We can help with property transactions (both residential conveyancing and commercial conveyancing), wills and probate and children’s cases where social services are involved.

Choosing a solicitor from among the many options available can seem a daunting task. At Bretherton Law we aim to make that task easier with our honest, straightforward and professional approach. We won’t talk down to you or baffle you with legal jargon. We’ll listen to your problem and give you our honest opinion of the best way forward.

We may be able to offer a fixed fee; if not, where possible we’ll tell you the likely costs up front, and we will be realistic based on the information we have.

You won’t find the Bretherton Law name splashed across your local newspaper or bus shelter. We’re happy to rely on client recommendations and word of mouth when it comes to generating new business. We believe that our professionalism and dedication to our clients’ needs are our key selling points, not some meaningless slogan dreamt up in the marketing department.

At the end of your dealings with Bretherton Law we want you to go away happy. We can’t always guarantee you’ll get the outcome you want, but we can make sure you get the best possible service and advice. With over 50 years’ experience in serving the local community we have built an enviable reputation – but don’t just take our word for it, take a look at what our clients say about us in our testimonials.

If you telephone us your call will be answered by a real person (no recorded voice saying press this and that number). Our friendly receptionist will listen to your needs and transfer you to the person who can help.

If you email us we aim to respond as quickly as possible, usually within one working day.

Call or email for a free initial discussion and find out how we can help you.

APPROACHABLE

We recognise that, for some, approaching a solicitor is a daunting prospect but you’ll find we are different – we are not stuffy corporate solicitors and we are confident you will agree. That’s why we offer anyone in need of will writing, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection or probate services the opportunity to book a free twenty minute consultation. For anyone who needs help dealing with Social Services, our child law team offer practical, helpful advice. You may be eligible for Legal Aid. Our property solicitors can guide your through the conveyancing process starting with a genuine, fixed fee conveyancing quote with no hidden charges.

ALWAYS PROFESSIONAL

We are friendly and approachable but that does not mean a compromise on quality. We are committed to excellent service standards, a fact demonstrated by our achievement of the Law Society’s LEXCEL  and Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) accreditation. Our child law solicitors include members of the Law Society’s Children Law Panel.

COMMUNITY FOCUSED

We began serving the people of St Albans and the surrounding areas but we now have many clients further afield. We are actively involved in many community groups and organisations including the charity Kick Start, the Citizens Advice Bureau, Refuge, BNI and St Albans City of Expertise. We regularly give free talks in the community to groups such as Carers in Herts and Lea Bereavement Support Service.
