St Albans Named Top Commuter Town 2020

Property sellers in St Albans have been given a boost with the publication of Property Agency Yopa’s London Commuter Guide for 2020. Yopa’s Guide puts St Albans in first place in its rankings of the best place to live if you commute to work in the capital.

The Guide’s rankings take into account average house prices and salaries, fastest train times into London and season ticket costs, in addition to crime rates and the number of good or highly rated local schools. The figures are then collated to arrive at a rating score out of 100, with St Albans coming in at first place on a score of 69.6 points.

Redhill in Surrey is rated the second best commuter town with a score of 67.3, whilst Luton takes 4th place with a rating score of 65.9/100. Other local towns with above average scores include Harpenden, Hatfield and Hemel Hempstead.

Towns in the London commuter belt continue to be highly rated by those looking to move out of the capital. Many of those wanting to relocate cite lower property costs, better value for money, more living space, bigger gardens, and access to the countryside as reasons for moving. Commuters must then make their choice – is their improved quality of life away from the big city worth exchanging for longer travel times and higher commuting costs? Recent trends suggest many people think it is.
