Restrictions on moving home have been relaxed by the government, but buyers and sellers should remain alert to the dangers they face when in close contact with other people.
- Ensure you are Covid-19 free and check others involved in viewings are too.
- Limit any contacts with people outside your household, whether you are buying or selling.
- Avoid meeting estate agents, surveyors or solicitors in person if possible, and use digital technology, telephone or email.
- Observe the 2 metre social distance rule, and allow only two or three visitors to the property at any one time.
- Homeowners should be absent from their property prior to any viewing or visits by professionals.
- Sellers should provide a check list to minimise time others spend inside the property, listing the location of the fuse box, stop cock, water meter, broadband connection etc.
- Minimise time inside the property to 15 minutes by looking at online videos and photos.
- Keep windows, doors, and cupboards open to avoid unnecessary touching, and wipe down afterwards.
- Visitors should wash or sanitize hands when entering and leaving the property. Ideally a disposable mask and gloves should be worn.
- Homeowners should disinfect door handles, handrails & other likely “touch points” after viewings.
- Homeowners should avoid open-house viewings and insist on pre-arranged timed appointments.
