Maggie Coombes retires after 44 years

Maggie Coombes, Accounts & Practice Manager at Bretherton Law, has retired after 44 years’ service with the company. Past and present members of staff joined Maggie to celebrate her retirement at the St Michaels Manor Hotel in St Albans.

Joining the business in 1973 when Bretherton & Co had a staff of just 4 people, Maggie came in to manage the accounts and over the years has overseen many changes – including computerisation, the de-regulation of legal services, and the rapid growth of technology.

A former Head Girl at her school, she was born and brought up in Doncaster, and moved to St Albans with her husband Alan in 1971. A keen cricket fan and golfer, Maggie was also something of a girl-racer in her youth, when she regularly raced a Mini Cooper S, Austin-Healey 3000, and a Lotus Cortina at circuits around the country. A measure of her importance to Bretherton Law is that we have now split her role between two new members of staff – Manish to head up our accounts team,  Katharine as Practice Manager. Sandra Bradley and all the staff at Bretherton Law would like to wish Maggie a long and happy retirement.
