Domestic abuse has always been a problem within our society, lurking and often hidden from view, but always there. Unfortunately lock down, job losses and the stress and fear caused by the pandemic have created a huge surge in domestic violence cases in 2020, a trend set to continue in 2021. Unfortunately, Hertfordshire is not exempt from this horror.
In December the Herts Ad published an Insight Special on Domestic Abuse. It includes an appeal to give a gift to women and children fleeing domestic abuse with few or no belongings, a case study on a relatively new kind of abuse (sharing and publishing intimate images online), the impact of coercive control and many more stories.
As solicitors who represent those affected by domestic abuse we thought this was an excellent publication from the Herts Ad. It not only creates awareness of this increasing problem, gives a message to victims that it’s OK to speak out – they are not alone, and provides contact details for useful sources of support.
