Public Access Defibrillators in St Albans and surrounding areas
During first aid training undertaken by members of the Bretherton Law team, they were really struck with how critical every second is when someone needs a defibrillator. No one in the training room knew where the closest defibrillator was located yet we know first-hand the importance of having accessible defibrillators in the community. Thanks to the Public Access Defibrillator scheme two friends, both in their fifties, are still with us today after suffering cardiac arrests. A defibrillator is a device to give an electric shock to the heart when someone is in cardiac arrest, and should be used alongside CPR as an essential life-saving step. So in an emergency knowing the whereabouts of the nearest defibrillator is essential.
When you call 999 the Ambulance Service will advise you of nearby locations, but people and businesses who install defibrillators are under no obligation to inform the emergency services. We want to identify the locations of defibrillators in our community and we will list the locations we know about on our website. Can you help? You can use the `Contact us’ page to tell us any known locations.

According to First Aid for Life each year in Britain around 30,000 people are struck by sudden cardiac arrest outside a hospital environment, and every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces a victim’s survival rate by 7 to 10 per cent. Your information could be the difference between life and death.
