Herts County Council seeks empty-nesters

Herts County Council has identified empty-nesters, couples whose children have grown up and left home, as a way of meeting the demand for new foster parents. An appeal in St Albans Council`s Community News publication directs anyone interested in becoming a foster carer to their fostering website: Hertfordshire Fostering

As the Newsletter rightly says: Empty nesters can make great foster carers because they`ve already got the skills and experience needed to look after children and teenagers.

Bretherton Law`s Director and expert in Child Law Sandra Bradley regularly sees the impact that the national shortage of foster carers has on the children she represents. Children and young people needing emergency placements or longer term care often find themselves a long way from friends, families and schools. This can increase distress for them at an already difficult time.
